SHAPE x Des Moines Women's Half Marathon

SHAPE x Des Moines Women's Half Marathon

SHAPE activewear was the proud apparel sponsor for the 1st annual Des Moines Women’s Half Marathon on May 7th, bringing together thousands of women for not only a race, but a movement highlighting the beauty in strength.

Hosted at Jasper Winery, the two-day event went off without a hitch and was full of celebration. On packet pick up day, runners filled into the large hall to find their name printed onto a wall to wall pink mesh barricade to commemorate all their hard work and dedicated training. This “athlete runway” led into the SHAPE shop were people could stock up on race apparel and other essentials to get them across the finish line.

On race day, runners were met with beautiful blue skies as they took to the starting line. Excitement and nerves were met with Alicia Keys, “This Girl Is On Fire” anthem instilling a moment of empowerment as the women mentally prepared for the countdown. The course of the race was marked with beautiful displays of sisterhood and comraderie. Once they finished, runners sipped wine, shopped the SHAPE Shop, listened to live music and took in the beautiful day as a cheers to their momentous accomplishment.

The Des Moines Women’s Half Marathon’s #IAMMORE campaign captured 'ordinary' women as they defied labels and showed off their ‘EXTRAordinary’. The women --athletes, Moms, business professionals, community leaders – are all women we know and can relate to. This not only resonated with the participants, but also with Girls On The Run of Central Iowa, the primary beneficiary of the race and non-profit organization that helps girls develop self-respect and practice a healthy lifestyle through running. Solemates, the Girls On The Run fundraising program raised over $5,000 for the organization inspiring them to love who they uniquely are and know that they are MORE.

From girls to women, remember you are strong and beautiful. Let’s continue to empower each other.
